This appeal focuses upon the decision of the district court, when sentencing Arthur Doe, to depart from the Sentencing Guidelines. A jury found Doe guilty of possessing a gun after a previous felony conviction. 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1). The Sentencing Guidelines specified an imprisonment range of about two years (21 to 27 months).
