During the course of Millard Farmer's representation of Emmitt Stephens in a civil rights action brought by Stephens against Harold Ivey and Bonny Associates, alleging racial discrimination in an attempt by Stephens to lease certain commercial space from Ivey (hereafter "the civil litigation"), both Farmer and his client Stephens were held in contempt of court by Judge William B.
