Francisco Jaiver Ponce Ledezma was murdered on October 31, 1990, in Madison County, Nebraska. Three years later, on October 27, 1993, appellant, Ramiro Martin, entered a plea of no contest to a charge of second degree murder for the killing of Ledezma. Subsequently, the district court for Madison County sentenced Martin to an indeterminate term of not less than 40 years nor more than life in prison.
