On November 17, 1988, at approximately 2:00 A.M., defendant and Melinda Alvarez* were stopped by two security guards as they were leaving the Hotel Martinique with boxes containing appliances, cameras and various other personal belongings. Defendant was also carrying a large, maroon suitcase which he placed on the floor beside him when confronted. The night manager of the Hotel testified that he did not recognize either Ms. Alvarez or defendant...
