The defendant fatally stabbed her boy friend during an argument. She was indicted on a charge of manslaughter. G.L.c. 265, § 13 (1992 ed.). At trial, she claimed self-defense. A jury found her guilty. She was sentenced to from sixteen to twenty years in prison. She appealed and we granted her application for direct appellate review.
