On January 12, 1993, Tejidos de Coamo, Inc. ("the Company") filed this suit in district court against the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union and one of its locals (collectively, "the Unions"). The complaint, premised on section 301 of the Taft-Hartley Act, 29 U.S.C. § 185, sought a declaration that no contract existed between the Company and the Unions; and the Company also requested a stay of pending arbitration proceedings....
