After the district court, acting sua sponte, reduced its original sentence in response to a recent amendment to the Sentencing Guidelines, see United States Sentencing Commission, Guidelines Manual, § 2D1.1, comment. (backg'd.) (Nov.1993), defendant Paul Dimeo appealed the revised sentence on the ground that the district court erred in not reducing the prison term below the minimum mandated by statute.
