Following a bench trial, defendant, Jesus Escalante, was convicted of burglary to a motor vehicle (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 19-1(a) (now 720 ILCS 5/19-1(a) (West 1992))) and was sentenced to 24 months' probation.
