Appellant, Darwyn Patterson, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 841(a), and to possession of a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking offense, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1). Patterson received a downward departure in his sentence based upon the court's finding that he had provided substantial assistance to the government.
