Defendant Raymond Smith was convicted of two counts of armed robbery and was sentenced to a term of life imprisonment under the Habitual Criminal Act. (Ill.Rev. Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 33B-1.) On appeal, defendant contends: (1) that he was denied a fair trial because his cross-examination of a witness was improperly limited and because the trial court erred in permitting the State to present hearsay evidence...
