In these consolidated cases, Raul Chaidez ("Chaidez") appeals his conviction and sentence on charges of distributing and conspiring to distribute cocaine, and Raymond Vargas ("Vargas") appeals the sentence imposed as a result of his guilty plea to a charge of distributing cocaine. For reasons stated below, we affirm Chaidez' conviction but reverse the fine imposed as part of his sentence because of the district court's failure to make necessary...
