Appellant, Kevin James Sneed, was convicted by the court of the offense of possession of a controlled substance, namely cocaine, of less than twenty-eight grams. See TEX.HEALTH & SAFETY CODE ANN. § 481.112(a) (Vernon 1992). The court assessed punishment at fifty years confinement in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
