On March 16, 1990, Floyd Foster suffered a myocardial infarction (heart attack) while working as a slot mechanic for the Riviera Hotel & Casino ("Riviera"). Foster filed a claim for industrial insurance compensation, which was denied by the State Industrial Insurance System (SIIS) pursuant to NRS 616.110(2).
