This admiralty action stems from a nighttime collision approximately four miles off the island of Culebra, Puerto Rico, between the 65-foot sailboat GLORIA and a 262-foot barge under tow by the tugboat BORINQUEN, owned by defendant-appellant Crowley Towing and Transportation Co., Inc. The five plaintiffs, the captain and crew of the GLORIA, were forced to abandon her moments before the collision and were rescued several hours later.
