This action arose out of an initiated amendment to the Colorado Constitution designating English as Colorado's official language. The initiative appeared on the Colorado ballot and was approved by voters in November 1988. The amendment became effective following a proclamation of the Governor on January 3, 1989, and now appears as Article II, § 30a of the Colorado Constitution.
