Following a jury trial, defendant Dennis Szudy was convicted of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death. The trial judge also found defendant to be a habitual criminal pursuant to section 33B-1 of the Criminal Code of 1961. (Ill.Rev.Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 33B-1 (now 720 ILCS 5/33B-1 (West 1992)).)
