During the course of his employment by the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company ("EJ & E"), Will Holmes's right hand was crushed in a piece of machinery leaving him with limited use of the fingers on that hand. Pursuant to the Federal Employer's Liability Act ("FELA"), 45 U.S.C. § 51, Holmes brought a successful action against EJ & E and was awarded $375,000 in damages. EJ & E appeals...
