Justice STEIGMANN delivered the opinion of the court:

In March 1993, the State charged defendant, Carol Smith, with three counts of forgery (720 ILCS 5/17-3(a)(2) (West 1992)) and two counts of perjury (720 ILCS 5/32-2(a) (West 1992)). Later that month, defendant filed motions to dismiss the forgery counts and to suppress all materials obtained pursuant to a State's subpoena. In April 1993, the trial court granted both motions. The State filed an interlocutory appeal...
