First Union Mortgage Corporation (First Union) brought this action against Jacob E. Thomas seeking to recover $58,500 due as an origination fee for First Union's services in obtaining a loan commitment from a proposed lender. Thomas filed various counterclaims. The jury found in favor of Thomas on First Union's claim, and awarded almost $600,000 in actual and punitive damages against First Union on Thomas' counterclaims. First Union appeals the...
