Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Will County, Tyrone Brandon was convicted of first degree murder (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 9-1) and aggravated criminal sexual assault (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 12-14). Brandon elected to have the trial court determine his sentence, and the court found that he was eligible to be sentenced to death because the murdered individual was killed in the course...
