Max Weisberg filed a petition for a federal writ of habeas corpus attacking his Minnesota state-court conviction for engaging in sports bookmaking. He alleged that the criminal complaint failed to state the essential elements of the offense and that his guilty plea is invalid. The district court granted the petition, and the State has appealed. We conclude that Weisberg's 1989 guilty plea was valid and that his attack on the criminal complaint...
