BIRCH, Justice.

In this action brought under the provisions of the Governmental Tort Liability Act,1 the plaintiff, Ronald Kirby, sought damages for injuries received when his truck slid off a one-lane bridge in rural Macon County. Kirby asserted that Macon County was negligent in failing to install standard metal guardrails on the bridge, or, alternatively, in failing to adequately maintain the wooden wheel guards...
