The defendant, Herbert L. Edwards, was indicted for second degree murder in the shooting death of Willie James Robertson. A jury convicted him of manslaughter, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:31. The trial court sentenced him to a term of imprisonment of seven years at hard labor. Pursuant to LSA-C.Cr.P. Art. 893.3, the trial court ordered that five of the seven years be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The defendant...
