Ricky G. Phinney was convicted of assault in the first degree, § 565.050, RSMo 1986, and he was sentenced to a twenty-year term of imprisonment. He now appeals, claiming that the trial court erred by submitting a jury instruction which incorrectly defined "reasonable doubt," and by submitting another instruction which failed to sufficiently inform the jury on the issue of self defense.
