In May 1987 Pullman Construction Industries commenced a reorganization in bankruptcy. The United States filed claims in the reorganization, seeking to recover taxes due for 1987 (and other years, which are not pertinent). Pullman responded by asking the bankruptcy court to recover, as preferential transfers, approximately $500,000 paid toward tax obligations during the 90 days before the filing of the petition in bankruptcy. 11 U.S.C. ...
