BROOKSHIRE, Justice.

Appellant, Joseph Reed, was convicted of the offense of sexual assault and was also found to be a repeat felony offender having previously been convicted of the offense of voluntary manslaughter. Appellant pleaded true to the enhancement paragraph. On December 2, 1992, after having found the defendant guilty of the offense of sexual assault, the jury assessed his punishment at 40 years imprisonment in the Institutional Division...
