The dispositive issue of this appeal is the applicability of the general verdict rule. The jury's handwritten verdict stated that the plaintiffs' claims were "inconclusive," but did not specifically mention the defendants' special defense. On the basis of this verdict, the trial court rendered judgment in favor of the defendants.
