Defendant Victor Meraz-Veleta appeals his conviction for unlawful reentry after deportation, 8 U.S.C. § 1326(a), (b)(2). We have jurisdiction under 28 U.S.C. § 1291.

On November 16, 1988, Defendant was convicted of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and sentenced to a term of 33 months imprisonment. The conviction made him eligible for deportation, see 8 U.S.C. § 1251(a)(2)(B) (providing for deportation...
