The defendant, Richard Johnson, age 35, was charged by indictment filed October 2, 1991, with one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 12-14(b)(1) (now 720 ILCS 5/12-14(b)(1) (West 1992))), a Class X felony, for allegedly placing his penis in the vagina of a 10-year-old girl between July 5, 1991, and August 31, 1991. He was also charged with one count of aggravated sexual abuse...
