This proceeding requires us, for the first time, to chart the interrelationship between Fed.R.App.P. 4(b) (delimiting the appeal period in criminal cases) and Fed.R.Crim.P. 35(c) (the text of which is set forth in the margin).1 We conclude that, under certain circumscribed circumstances, post-judgment motions brought under the latter rule can operate to extend the appeal period limned by the former rule, and that...
