Defendants, Eduardo Carrillo and Dolly Stacey, were indicted for the murder (Ill.Rev. Stat.1979, ch. 38, par. 9-1(a)(1)), felony murder (Ill.Rev.Stat.1987, ch. 38, par. 9-1(a)(3)), and first degree murder (Ill.Rev.Stat.1987, ch. 38, pars. 9-1(a)(1), 9-1(a)(2)) of Helen Serafin, who died on December 26, 1988, from a gunshot wound that she suffered on September 17, 1979.
