The defendant, Mark Ferns, was indicted for the first degree murder and aggravated criminal sexual assault of Ruth Casillas. He was convicted of first degree murder and aggravated criminal sexual assault and was sentenced to 80 years imprisonment for first degree murder and 30 years for aggravated criminal sexual assault, the sentences to be served concurrently.
