The defendant, Leroy Readoux, was originally indicted for committing second-degree murder on February 14, 1988. Pursuant to a plea bargain agreement the bill of indictment was amended on November 30, 1988, and defendant was charged with manslaughter, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:31. In return for defendant's guilty plea to the reduced charge of manslaughter, defendant was to receive the statutory maximum sentence of twenty-one (21) years at hard labor...
