Matthew Trupiano, a former official of a laborers local, was charged in a multi-count indictment alleging wagering-related violations as well as embezzlement of union funds. Trupiano was convicted by a jury on one count of operating an illegal gambling business in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1955, and was acquitted on all other counts.
