The defendant appeals from the judgment of conviction, rendered after a jury trial, of possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell by a person who is not drug-dependent in violation of General Statutes § 21a-278 (b),1 possession of a narcotic substance with intent to sell by a person who is not drug-dependent within 1000 feet of a school in violation of General Statutes (Rev. to 1991) § 21a-278a (b),
