The principal issue in this case, arising from the trial judge's allowance of the defendants' motions for directed verdicts, is whether the jury would have been warranted in finding that one or both of the defendants caused petroleum contamination discovered in 1988 in soil on property in Worcester now owned by the plaintiff railroad (P & W). We transferred P & W's appeal to this court on our own motion. We affirm the judgment for the defendants...
