Appellants are District of Columbia residents who were injured when the car they were driving, a Nissan 300ZX, was involved in an automobile collision in North Carolina. They sued Nissan Motor Corporation in U.S.A. ("Nissan U.S.A."), the distributor of Nissan automobiles in the United States, for damages, including punitive damages, attributable to "severe permanent injuries" proximately caused by the defective design and the defendant's failure...
