Morgan Briggs, a Deputy Sheriff with the Grant Parish Sheriff's Office, had a heart attack while on the job and died. The plaintiff, Grace Briggs, was married to Morgan at the time of his death. Ms. Briggs brought suit to recover a $20,000 payment from the Law Enforcement Officers and Firemen's Survivors Benefit Fund as provided in La. R.S. 33:2201 (1988).
