On June 7, 1991, the defendant Stacey Eugene Dawson received a trial by jury and was convicted of distributing the controlled dangerous substance cocaine within 1,000 feet of school property under Maryland Code (1957, 1992 Repl.Vol.), Article 27, § 286D.1 We granted certiorari to decide the issue of whether § 286D, which criminalizes the distribution of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of school...
