The defendants, Pickard and Hollingsworth, were convicted by a jury of money laundering in violation of federal law. 18 U.S.C. § 1956(a)(3); 31 U.S.C. § 5324(3) (1988). (Section 5324(3) has since been revised and renumbered 5324(a)(3).) They were sentenced to 24 and 18 months in prison respectively.
