The plaintiff, Bethesda Foundation, is a Nebraska nonprofit corporation organized for the purpose of operating hospitals for the general public and nursing homes for aged and infirm persons. It is a tax-exempt charitable organization. Prior to September 30, 1988, Bethesda owned and operated 12 nursing homes in Nebraska known as Bethesda Care Centers.
