In October 1989, a Maricopa County jury convicted appellant Mickel William Herrera (defendant) of first degree felony murder, aggravated robbery, and kidnapping. The trial court sentenced defendant to death on the murder conviction, to 21 years' imprisonment on the kidnapping conviction, and to 10 years' imprisonment on the aggravated robbery conviction, with the sentences to run consecutively.
