Richard Coggin sued Theresa L. Mikkelsen and her father, William R. Mikkelsen, for damages for personal injuries, and Richard's wife Lisa Coggin sued the Mikkelsens for damages for loss of consortium; the Coggins alleged that the injuries resulted from a collision between the vehicle Theresa Mikkelsen was driving and the bicycle Richard Coggin was riding.
