This case presents unrelated appeals arising out of the same litigation. The first appellant is defendant, Luis J. Palacio, whom the State charged in September 1990 with aggravated arson (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 20-1.1(a)) and two counts of home invasion (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 12-11(a)(1)).
