The State appeals the order of the trial court suppressing the statements of defendant,(Ill. Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 12-14(b)(1)) of his stepdaughter, A.Z., six years prior to the indictment. The issues on appeal are whether defendant's statements were involuntary because the interrogation was custodial; whether he was denied the right to counsel during the interrogation; and whether his confession was otherwise...
