The defendant, Sheila Beasley, was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder (Ill.Rev.Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 9-2(a) (now 720 ILCS 5/9-2(a) (West 1992))) for shooting her husband to death. The trial court sentenced the defendant to eight years' imprisonment.
