Justice BUCKLEY delivered the opinion of the court:

Following a jury trial, defendant Maurice Mays was convicted of murder and attempted murder. In People v. Mays (1988), 176 Ill.App.3d 1027, 127 Ill.Dec. 14, 532 N.E.2d 843, we affirmed his convictions, but remanded for a hearing to be held in accordance with the Supreme Court decision in Batson v. Kentucky (1986),
