Appellant Marcellis Stoddard was injured when he was struck by a car while crossing the street on his way to school. He was five years old and unescorted by an adult (or anyone) when the accident occurred. The place of the accident was approximately "two football fields" from the designated crosswalk in front of the school, a crossing normally attended at this hour by a crossing guard.
