Defendant, Harvey Allen, Jr., was convicted of four counts of murder (Ill.Rev. Stat.1985, ch. 38, par. 9-1) and arson (Ill. Rev.Stat.1985, ch. 38, par. 20-1), following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County. He was sentenced to natural life in prison without possibility of parole and to a concurrent term of 7 years for the arson conviction.
