Following a bench trial, defendant Reginald Williams was convicted of burglary. (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 19-1, now codified as 720 ILCS 5/19-1 (West 1992).) Thereafter, the circuit court sentenced him to a three-year period of probation and imposed a $3,000 fine.
